The 78ers Legacy Fund
Forty years ago, a remarkable group of people set off upon a march that would change the future of this country. When they courageously took to the streets of Sydney, the 78ers broke new ground for same-sex and ultimately LGBTIQ+ rights, inaugurating the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade.
A lot of time has passed and the landscape for the LGBTIQ+ community is now radically different. However, there is still more to be done. Education and research are vital to strengthening the next generation of social activists, and in June the University is hosting a Mardi Gras 40th anniversary conference to explore what can be done within the academic community and beyond to facilitate positive change.
To further celebrate the historic contributions of the 78ers, the University of Sydney is also establishing the 78ers Legacy Fund. Your gift today to the 78ers Legacy Fund will support another 40 years of progress.
Your support today can provide opportunities for students interested in advancing gender, social, cultural and sexual equality, inclusion and diversity.
The impact of the 78ers Legacy Fund is limited only by our commitment and imagination. Please show your support in honouring the legacy of the 78ers today.
If you are not in a position to give, you can still help by sharing our project with your friends and family through social media and your networks.
