Amar Hadid - Five By '25
Some words from Amar Hadid - Professional Skateboarder and and USyd student studying a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science .
How has being a part of the USyd EAP helped you?
Being a part of the EAP at Sydney University has helped me in tremendous ways, both on the skateboard and in the classroom. Having a personalised gym program specific to my sport and receiving personal coaching in the gym has ensured I train like an elite athlete and improve my fitness. Whenever I need help with my studies all I need to do is apply online and I get top tutoring within a day or two. I can also see a phycologist and nutritionist whenever I please. Being an elite athlete means I need to travel overseas to compete, sometimes during semester. The EAP ensure everything is taken care of with my teachers and make sure I keep up with all my work while I am away.
What are the challenges of being an elite student athlete?
The biggest challenge is juggling university, training and my life. As an elite athlete you sometimes need to sacrifice things such as your social life, which can be hard to do. However, if I was an elite athlete and student without the support of the EAP I would face much harder challenges!
Why is Five By 25 important to you? - Why have you chosen to give back by becoming an ambassador?
The Five By 25 campaign is important to me because I know how much the EAP can help student athletes and how they can help them achieve great things in both their sport and studies. With that first-hand experience of being an elite athlete with the EAP, I know the great effects this campaign will have and how it will benefit athletes who want to pursue their sport but also their studies.
The people who run the EAP are helpful in every way. They are prompt to assist me in any way possible when I have issues with training or classes. They make it as amazing as it is. Also, to any athletes who want to be student-athletes, you should definitely apply to be a part of the EAP, they really are the greatest sports program in Australia.
