Thanks to generous support from alumni and friends, we have just awarded the University of Sydney’s first 78ers Legacy Fund undergraduate scholarship!
Since the project’s inception last year, marking the 40th anniversary of the original Mardi Gras march and protest held in 1978, over 50 caring and visionary individuals have gifted more than $8,500 to establish the inaugural scholarship.
Eligibility for this award is limited to undergraduate students who identify as LGBTIQ+ .
In addition to academic merit, the scholarship of $6,000 per annum will be awarded to those who can demonstrate a commitment to promoting awareness and understanding of issues that may affect people of diverse genders and sexualities. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial hardship.
Your continued support, along with gifts from new donors, will help us to continue awarding the scholarship annually, providing educational opportunities to many more members of the LGBTIQ+ community and enabling these individuals to pursue goals in higher education and beyond. We passionately believe that education and culture have a critical relevance for LGBTIQ+ histories and futures, and can enrich the lives and experiences of all.
Please consider making a gift towards the 78ers Legacy Fund Undergraduate Scholarship. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and 100% of the donated funds will be used for the undergraduate student scholarship. If you make your gift prior to the 30th of June, your gift will be tax deductible for this financial year.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
If you are not in a position to give, you can still help by sharing our project with your friends and family through social media and your networks.
