Support the Student Bursaries Fund.
The Student Bursaries Fund supports students who are struggling financially and helps them cope with unexpected circumstances.
More students require immediate support now.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and the recent bushfires there has been a rise in the number of students desperately needing immediate financial support. With many students losing employment as a result of COVID-19 the number of requests is only going to increase. Students are arriving at the University’s Financial Support Service with no money and nowhere to turn. They are struggling to make ends meet.
Providing emergency assistance.
One particular student’s story highlights the terrible human cost of the COVID-19 pandemic and the help the Student Bursaries Fund can provide.
She had overcome enormous hurdles just to be here at the University, having suffered chronic and ongoing mental health and other medical issues.
But through hard work and determination she managed to put herself through an undergraduate degree and had gone on to enroll in a post graduate degree. It was an inspiring achievement.
Then, during a period of forced self-isolation, she lost her job and found out she had to move out of her house. She had no home and no money for a bond. When she came to see the Financial Support Service she was deeply distressed.
The Financial Support Service team are deeply concerned for the immediate wellbeing of students like her. They’re worried that if she and others are forced to defer their study for a semester due to their financial circumstances, they may never return to education at all.

“Your donation, whatever the amount, will really make a difference. Giving someone an opportunity can change someone's life. Education changed my life, so I know very well what that means. It's not just about being generous and being kind to help others, it's about helping someone to achieve their potential.” – Dr Susanna Scarparo, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Life)
