What are the Indigenous Uni-Games?
The National Indigenous Tertiary Education Student Games (NITESG) is an annual sporting event for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students and staff. The games started in 1996 as a class project between 30 students enrolled at The University of Newcastle. Now in its 21st year, the games have grown so that hundreds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tertiary students from universities all around Australia compete against 35 individual teams.
The games provide a unique opportunity to bring together Indigenous students from around the country to participate and compete at a national level in mixed sports including basketball, netball, volleyball and touch football as well as an Indigenous cultural game.
Who will benefit from our fundraising?
Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students from across all disciplines at the university will benefit from this fundraising. They will be able to attend as a collective group and engage in networking and shared experiences. The University of Sydney can be proud of our representation at the games.
Through the participation of such cultural events we know that our students have greater opportunities to succeed at university and become future leaders in our society.
