Earlier in the year, you gave to the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health’s Healthy Teeth, Healthy Kids crowdfunding campaign.
Now I wish to share with you some fabulous findings, which have been made possible in part by your generosity.
Airing on the ABC’s 7.30 last night, a new study reveals that the Poche Centre’s model of delivering oral care to Aboriginal Australians is twice as effective and half the cost of the government’s primary model.
Through the Healthy Teeth, Healthy Kids program, the Poche Centre has delivered 10,000 oral health kits to Indigenous children and brought specialist care to where it is needed most. This program not only improves oral health, but increases school attendance, concentration, and brings greater understanding of the relationship between dental disease, poor nutrition and the likelihood of developing chronic diseases later in life.
